Effects of contract farming on diets and nutrition in Ghana

Contract farming gained importance in many developing countries. While effects of contracting on smallholder farmers' incomes were analyzed previous studies, diet and nutrition are not yet well understood. Here, we examine the contract dietary diversity child anthropometrics, using survey data from palm oil sector Ghana. Contracting improves nutrition, but vary by type. We distinguish between marketing contracts resource-providing that affect household labor use gender roles differently. For both types, female farmers has larger positive than male farmers.
